M-Fund Insight September 2026: Market Momentum Strengthens, While Investment Strategy Remains Measured

Entering September, positive momentum across Indonesian assets remains intact, although further upside is increasingly constrained by global and domestic risks. The August rally in the JCI and government bonds reflected stronger risk appetite, but elevated U.S. Treasury yields and oil prices, uncertainty over the Fed’s policy trajectory, and inconsistent foreign flows limit the scope for further gains. Domestically, growth remains solid, but rising inflation, renewed contraction in manufacturing PMI, a narrowing trade surplus, and a wider current account deficit have increased the Rupiah’s vulnerability to external pressures. With the market outlook still constructive but increasingly exposed to volatility ahead of the FOMC and Bank Indonesia meetings, portfolio strategy should remain balanced: preserve liquidity through money market funds, optimize carry through limited duration bond funds with selective duration extension, and gradually accumulate equity funds focused on fundamentally strong large cap stocks.

Poultry (Overweight/Maintain) - Record Prices as Local Money Steps In

Broiler price hit a record IDR24,351/kg in August 2026 (+30.5% MoM, +30.1% YoY), while DOC surged to a two year high of IDR7,275/chick (+37.6% MoM, +22.5% YoY). We attribute the DOC gain to firm broiler prices, which we believe stem from lower oversupply against strong MBG demand. Corn edged up to IDR6,573/kg (+1.3% MoM, +22.4% YoY), and its 8M26 average (+36.6% YoY) is running ahead of DOC (+18.7%) and broiler (+15.1%), but we believe higher MBG volumes more than cover the faster input cost growth.

The CCI rose to 118.5 in Aug 26 from 116.8 in Jul 26 after three consecutive monthly declines. CECI increased to 109.4 and CEI to 127.6, but the 18.2 point gap shows households remain considerably more optimistic about the outlook than their current income and purchasing conditions.

Fixed Income Daily Update - September 11, 2026

The ECB raised its policy rate by 25bps to 2.50%, turning more hawkish as renewed Middle East tensions pushed energy prices higher and lifted its 2026 inflation forecast to 3.0%. The move reinforces the higher for longer global rates backdrop, as persistent energy driven inflation increasingly constrains central banks’ room to support growth.

Flash Focus: Erajaya Swasembada (ERAA IJ/Not rated) - Building the Next Leg of Growth

We recently met with ERAA's IR to discuss its 2H26 outlook, focusing on the handset cycle, expansion of non Digital businesses and capital allocation. Management is targeting mid to high SD FY26 SSSG, versus 7M26 SSSG of 2.2% and Jul'26 SSSG of 8.6% YoY, with the softer run rate partly reflecting a tougher 2H25 base following the delayed iPhone 16 launch in Apr 25.
